Knorr National Chef of the Year 2006
Knorr National Chef of the Year 2006 is a certain highlight of the Restaurant Show. In a top competition boasting Steve Love, Mark Sargeant and Gordon Ramsay as past winners, 40 top chefs will compete in four semi-finals on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 September to win a place in the final on Wednesday 20 September.
The competition's eagerly-anticipated final day features 10 finalists creating an inventive three-course menu using a mystery box of ingredients.
The event culminates that evening with the crowning of the Knorr National Chef of the Year 2006 competition overall winner at a gala awards dinner at London's Dorchester Hotel.
Head chef Neil Atkins of the Chequers, Cutnall Green, near Droitwich, Worcestershire, is the only pub chef representative to reach the semi-final of this year's competition, run by the Craft Guild of Chefs as a biennial event.
Neil's menu must feature a vegetarian starter, venison main and chocolate dessert.
He plans to prepare a salad of French bean & wild mushrooms with beetroot carpaccio & balsamic vinaigrette, roast loin of venison, Savoy cabbage ball, butternut squash purée, fondant potato & port wine jus, and bitter chocolate fondant and white chocolate brûlée with mandarin ice cream & milk chocolate sauce.
