Chips with everything

McCain Foods has launched its new Signatures range, using chips made from British potatoes.

The range includes McCain Rustic, Gourmet, and Classic chips, which can be served as a meal accompaniment, shared as a snack, or served as a side order.

Bill Bartlett, McCain Foods corporate affairs director, said: "The range tastes fantastic."

McCain Signatures Rustic contains random-cut chips that have a hand-made appearance and come from the best of British potatoes.

The Gourmet variety has been created to give customers a full-flavour chip.

The Classics chips are made from Maris Piper potatoes, which guarantee a distinctive look and taste.

The range also includes New Brewer's Ridges, a chunky ridge-cut potato in crispy beer batter.

Having a ball

Bernard Matthews Foodservice has launched lamb meatballs made from New Zealand lamb mince.

Containing less than 185mg of sodium and 7g of fat per 50g oven-baked serving, the lamb meatballs, which come in 1kg bags, are a versatile ingredient to suit a variety of menu options. They can be served with mint gravy, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables, used as an ingredient in a tasty lamb casserole, or make a basis for an exotically-spiced Moroccan dish.

Another healthy option is to serve the

meatballs in wholemeal pitta bread with salad and a low-fat mint and yoghurt dressing.

Bernard Matthews' turkey meatballs are

already established with caterers - the

company expects the new recipe to make their meatballs an even bigger hit.

Meaty additions

Kff, an independent foodservice supplier in the south-east of England, has added a range of frozen, chilled and ambient products to its list.

New for autumn is the Baraka Individual BBQ baby back ribs. These are pre-cooked ribs, "smothered" in House of Lords BBQ sauce, which Kff says are ideal for combos, starters and mixed grills. They are microwaved from frozen in five minutes and come in single-portion packs.

Also new this season are the Friki dipped and dusted chicken with sweet chilli - strips of chicken fillet in a light coating.

Kff's new main courses include chilli con carne meatballs, which come in a chilli con carne sauce with peppers and kidney beans; sous-vide stuffed chicken with either caramelised onion, red pepper and goats' cheese or leeks, spinach and sun-blushed tomatoes.
