Till roll company calling for help to stamp out rogues

Till roll supplier Fortoak is trying to stamp out the cowboys targeting pubs by asking licensees for help.

The reputable till roll company is particularly concerned about the raft of Canadian-based companies who target licensees in this nationwide scam supplying expensive till rolls. It is calling on licensees who have been ripped off to contact them so they can make their case for action to the Office of fair Trading (OFT).

The rogue till roll company phones the pub and asks if there is someone there to take a delivery and implies they are from the licensees' nominated supplier. When the unordered till rolls arrive a whopping bill for up to £300 is sent for products that are worth closer to £30.

Managing director Philip Tenwick told The Publican Fortoak is concerned about the high number of its own customers as well as new ones who are being ripped off. In fact he says his company has been financially hit by these rogues and says his company turnover is down by as much as 20 per cent. He is particularly worried as news is reaching him of these companies pretending to be Fortoak to obtain an order.

Managing director Philip Tenwick exclusively told The Publican: "We are getting some resistance from licensees as they have been hit by the scams.

"We are going through action with the OFT. We are pursuing every avenue we can to stop the scam.

"When we are calling our own customers we are getting accused of being one of these companies. We are going to continue to pursue it as our reputation is on the line.
