Get Carter's success story beside the sea

Award-winning licensee and industry consultant Ali Carter is selling her pub.

The Bay View Inn at Wide-mouth, Cornwall, is on the market at £1,750,000 for the freehold interest.

Carter owns and manages the pub with her husband Clive Mansell and the pair now want to sell their business to concentrate on their young family and other business interests in Hampshire.

Turnover for this year is expected to be in excess of £900,000 with a gross profit margin of 68%.

"When we took over the pub three years ago, turnover was around £200,000 a year," said Carter. "I think the place still has a huge amount of potential and could be developed even further to achieve 50% more turnover."

After turning around the fortunes of their previously ailing business, Carter and Mansell plan to move to Southampton. Carter plans to focus on her consultancy business, although she added: "I think Clive will want a pub, but we haven't made any firm plans yet".

The property features a main bar, a surf bar restaurant, a beach hut restaurant, a lounge bar, plus a fully- equipped catering kitchen with washroom, pastry room and walk-in fridge.

The pub also boasts six letting rooms, all with ensuite facilities, as well as two refurbished cottages with two bedrooms each. There is potential to use the cottages for either personal use, holiday or long-term letting.

There is a manager's flat on the first floor, the space consisting of a lounge, a double bedroom and a bathroom.
