Pubs and clubs that achieve Best Bar None (BBN) status will soon be able to showcase themselves to the public via a new website. Dubbed "PubSpace" after the popular MySpace site, the site will let customers search for BBN-accredited venues in their area. It is one idea to take BBN "to the next level", following the announcement that BBN is to go country-wide with the first national awards planned for next April. Details - p32-33.

Portman Group has launched a campaign to raise awareness of its code for responsible alcohol marketing. The number of complaints about drinks products has been low recently. Portman boss David Poley said this may be because the industry was obeying the code. A campaign poster and leaflet is being sent to police, trading standards and others.

Scottish & Newcastle UK (S&NUK) has announced "robust" results - although the UK beer market had been "weaker than usual" with a 6.7% decline. S&NUK said it was on track after three- quarters of its financial year. It said the decline of the UK market "has been driven in part by a stock overhang following the World Cup, but is also indicative of a depressed consumer environment". It also said the smoking ban would have "an adverse effect".

Revellers in Lewes, East Sussex wore anti-Greene King slogans on their clothes on bonfire night in protest at plans to remove Harvey's bitter from Greene King's Lewes Arms pub. More than 1,000 signatures have also been collected. Greene King boss Mark Angela said that if dropping Harvey's "doesn't work, we will review it".

Wellington Pub Company has asked the MA to make it clear that turnover and profit figures for its financial year to 31 March 2005, reported in last week's magazine, related to a longer period than its most recent year. In the 15-month period to 31 March 2005 Wellington had a turnover of £35.1m and pre-tax profit of £15.4m. In the 12-month period to 31 March 2006, Wellington had a turnover of £29.5m and pre-tax profit of £12.4m.
