The final matches of the Champions League group stage are coming up and there are spots in the next round to fight for, with Premiership clubs in contention.

Following an almighty slip-up against Celtic, Manchester United must avoid defeat in Wednesday's home match against Benfica to qualify.

It's a case of easier said than done, because Benfica will be chasing a win and the accompanying three points that would send them through at Man U's expense.

The Red Devils won't fancy a second season on the trot with no Champions League football after Christmas.

There's added spice for this tie as it was Benfica that condemned Man U to an early exit from the competition at this stage last season.

Revenge should be a powerful motivator for the Red Devils. The game should be a cracker.

Matters are slightly less fraught in Group G. With Arsenal and FC Porto level on points at the top of the group, a draw when the teams meet in their final group match would mean both progress to the next stage, freezing out CSKA Moscow in the process.

Will a gentleman's agreement be struck, at the Russians' expense? It could make for a dull game if neither side make an effort.

However, if either side win, they'll top the group, get better seeding, and open the door to CSKA.

Tuesday's games have less riding on them. Liverpool are through, as are Chelsea, although their group rivals, 2006 European Champions Barcelona must beat Werder Bremen to qualify. Barca will not want to be the first reigning champions to fall at the first hurdle, so you can expect fireworks.

l In the Premiership on Saturday, Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs fans will make the short trip to the Gunners' Emirates Stadium for the latest instalment in the teams' ongoing tussle.
