Britannia Business Sales

It was a busy end to last year for Britannia Business Sales, with three completions in December and more scheduled for this year.

Considerable interest was shown in the three businesses sold, all of which have gone to private purchasers. Demand is still strong throughout the eastern counties and we look forward to a successful 2007.

The Poacher at Cratfield has been run by David Maskery for eight years, and despite its rural location is a well-known hostelry in North Suffolk. A traditional freehouse with plenty of period features, the Poacher comprises a large double-section main bar with adjacent 22-cover restaurant and extensive private accommodation on two floors. It was sold to Roger and Margaret Harrison from Huntingdon off an asking price of £370,000.

The attractive 16th-century Cock Inn at Brent Eleigh has been owned by Charles and Liz Lydford for over 12 years. Just two miles from the famous medieval and Tudor town of Lavenham, the Cock is a beautiful Grade II-listed thatched building, reputed to be over 500 years old, which sits in extensive grounds. Its new owners are James and Debbie Davis who are experienced licensees, having run the Goat in

St Albans for many years. The Cock Inn was sold off an asking price of £375,000.

There is always demand for freehouses in Bedfordshire and in this respect the Horseshoes at Eggington is a prime example. Considerable interest was shown by a variety of prospective purchasers in the Horseshoes, which is situated close to Leighton Buzzard, just two miles off the A5 trunk road. The unopposed village freehouse had a turnover of circa £290,000 and the extensive accommodation comprises a main bar, 22-cover dining room, gallery, snug, marquee and a private function room. We were offering a new 15-year private, free-of-tie lease and the successful purchasers were Mr S Rabby and Mr F Ezdi from Luton, Beds who purchased the lease off an asking price of £75,000.
