The Restaurant Association has launched its 2007 Young Chef Waiter competition.

Chefs and waiters, who have to be 24 years or under on 31 December 2007 to enter, will be judged on their abilities and gain guidance from a panel of Michelin-starred chefs and industry representatives.

Personal feedback on performance, hints and tips on the industry and press coverage will be offered for all participants to help them to return to the kitchen and front-of-house with an enhanced business outlook.

Event sponsors include American Express, the Savoy Educational Trust, Louis Roederer Champagne, HSBC, CMA, EBLEX (English Beef & Lamb Executive) and Sodexho.

David Baldwin, Chairman of The Restaurant Association said:

"As The Restaurant Association we have a duty to the catering industry to make our competition play a significant role in the personal and business skill development of all the successful entrants. This means making the competition meaningful and of value to all involved, not just as a competition with impressive prizes, but as a genuine educational development tool for all young chefs and waiters.

"Our competitors go back to their workplaces having genuinely matured, whether it be in terms of their approach to customers, food, presentation or personal skills and with a better awareness of the business in which he or she is a part.

"Equally as important is that, by entering their most promising staff for Young Chef Young Waiter, an establishment is making a statement about the value that they place on the contribution and creative talent of their most loyal and talented workers.

"Key also to this competition's success is that we constantly strive to keep it challenging and ensure that its content stays abreast of market change. This year we have reduced the entry age as year after year competitors continue to impress us with their professionalism, despite their age group.

"Industry competitions are key in promoting the very best of our chefs, waiters and establishments to the wider public in order to maintain interest in food and foodservice to keep our businesses in healthy growth."
