Plaimont extends umbrella

French wine co-operative Plaimont has developed a new selection of single and dual varietals made with lesser-known grapes.

Produced in the south-west, the Rive Haute range includes entry-level dual varietals leading up to appellation wines made using more unusual grapes such as Tannat, Pinenc and Manseng.

Plaimont business development manager André Dubosc said: "The aim of Rive Haute is to build a strong umbrella brand, representative of our terroir and our traditions, yet at the same time creating a range of wines designed with the British consumer in mind."

No Taboo on making friends

First Drinks is hoping to encourage friends to get together over a glass of Taboo with a promotion giving away a trip to New York.

The company has named next week National Best Mates Week, which it will be promoting in a national campaign under the theme: "Put yourself in their shoes".

Activity will include a viral online competition to win free shoes for a year and a trip to New York, or one of 10,000 pairs of shoes as well as a two-for-one pedicure offer.

Nobby's Nuts branches out

PepsiCo is branching out into the upmarket nuts arena with the addition of a clutch of new lines in its Nobby's Nuts range.

In a bid to offer a range of alternatives to standard peanuts, four product varieties are being launched: Premium Almonds with Japanese Wasabi & Soy; Premium Almonds with Lime 'n' Chilli; Premium Cashews with Indian Spice and Premium Cashews with Sweet Chilli.

Walkers marketing manager Cath Kietz said: "We have found that Nobby's Nuts are equally appealing to women as they are to men and this launch is designed to broaden their appeal further still in pubs and clubs. We believe the new Premium Cashew Nuts available on pub cards will help to satisfy the demand for variety."
