Consumers tell us their views on the ban
Are you excited about the ban?
Ida Miller, 80 and Andrew Miller, 18
Ida: Oh yes, neither of us smoke. It won't make much difference to pubs. I saw a publican on TV saying they are going to make a shelter, I suppose lots of them will think of things like that. I think it's a good thing, it had to come.
Andrew: A lot of my friends smoke, they're all saying 'I'll just put up with it', I don't think it¹s going to make much difference at all. I think people will carry on and just smoke outside. In the long long term, I guess it¹s a good thing.
Donata Dackauskyte, 23, barmaid
I don't know, it seems sensible. At first it's going to be quite weird, but I think we will get used to it. When there's lots of people smoking, there's always a fog inside. I am glad from the first of July there will be no smoking at the bar, it'll be great, especially when it's busy, some people start smoking and I don¹t like it.
Alan Pook, cinema manager, and Claire Pook, pharmacy assistant, both 27
Neither of us smoke, so yes! We are not offended by people smoking around us, but it's nicer without. It'll just be a bit cleaner, just generally nicer.
Davin King, 21, dance student
Yes, because I am a smoker but smoking inside is not very nice. I don't think the ban will make much difference at first because it's summer and by the time it's winter everyone will be used to it.
Peter Carolan, 60, IT customer service manager
Absolutely, because I am an ardent non-smoker and I've recently come back from New York, where you can eat and drink anywhere without having to contend with a contaminated atmosphere. I know about 30 people who all say they would prefer to go to the pub at lunchtime and go to a smoke free environment. It may affect sandwich shops though!
