Andrew Meadowcroft has been appointed as head of licensed trade business at Barclays Commercial Bank.

Meadowcroft, who is also a relationship director for the North of England in the bank's leisure and hospitality team, will be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships and business development in the licensed trade sector.

Neil Parry, national head of the hospitality and leisure team at Barclays Commercial Bank said: "Having been at Barclays for 22 years, Andrew has built a reputation for providing customers in the licensed trade sector with exactly what they need, be it traditional financing or more complex debt capital markets solutions.

"He has an excellent understanding of the sector and the challenges it faces which makes him exactly the right person for this role."

In taking up his new role Meadowcroft replaces Publican columnist Geoff Newton, who has left Barclays to form his own consultancy business.

Meadowcroft joins his predecessor as a regular contributor to the magazine's City & Business section next week.
