Corporate goal for the year?

To continue the growth of our portfolio of brands by working closely with customers and consumers to understand their needs and how to meet them, while developing brand initiatives that are innovative and engaging to drive value back into the market.

Any opportunity to grow your business?

Yes, we believe that there is still a significant growth opportunity in the premium beer category. Our ethos of working in partnership with customers has enabled us to develop innovative initiatives that resonate with targeted consumers. Peroni Nastro Azzurro, which is now one of the fastest-growing beer brands in the UK, is a good example of the success that we have had with this approach.

If there is a downturn in the economy, how bad is it going to get?

I am sure the market will remain tough; however, there are lots of innovative and entrepreneurial operators out there who have the ability to re-create or adapt their businesses. Those that will ride the storm best will be those who strive to deliver exceptional quality.

Where's the light at the end of the tunnel?

This will come from the many talented and innovative companies and individuals working in the market. They will find new ways of bringing engaging and exciting products and services to our demanding consumers.

If political pressure increases, what's our best form of defence?

We should focus on positives. The licensed trade is an integral part of British life, bringing employment to thousands and significant revenue to the UK treasury. Also, many companies within the sector are, like us, committed to corporate social investment activities which deliver sustainable benefits.

We need to keep communicating the positive benefits that our industry contributes, both at a local level to MPs and at a national level to Government officials.

Biggest challenge your business faces?

The biggest challenge facing us is to ensure that we continue to recruit and develop excellent employees.

Personal goal for the year?

To design my own personal website.

Favourite quotation or business adage?

"All business operations can be reduced to three words: people, product and profit. Unless you've got a good team, you can't do much with the other two." Lee Iacocca.
