Percy Fox has unveiled a new draught wine system for its leading brand Blossom Hill.

The Perfect Glass system, which has cost £1.5m to bring to market, will be launched into the trade on March 1. This follows an extensive trial period across Greene King, Regent Inns and Whitbread pubs.

The trial was a big success, with wine sales increasing in all outlets during the trial. In pubs which are wet-led, there was a 39 per cent increase in wine sales, while in outlets which are mainly food-oriented, sales rose by 17 per cent.

Jon Luke, on-trade director for brand owner Percy Fox, said: "We thought long and hard about how we could bring effective innovation to the pub trade. And I think it is pretty special. This draught innovation is wine-specific - many previous efforts by the trade have not been.

"The aims of Blossom Hill Perfect Glass are to maximise the exposure of wine on the front bar, minimise wine wastage and to radically improve the wine experience for every customer - a fresh, crisp glass of wine served at the right temperature every time."

The four taps deliver individual grape varietal wines (merlot, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot grigio and white zinfandel) from a 10-litre vacuum-sealed bag. The font is designed to deliver draught wine at the correct temperature (3-5° for white wines, 22° for red wines).
