Carlsberg's Alloa distribution depot under threat

Carlsberg may shut its Alloa distribution centre in August this year.

Workers at the depot are said to be "shocked"​ by the decision, which could see all 58 jobs lost.

"We are deeply disappointed at the behaviour of Carlsberg UK in announcing the planned closure without any warning whatsoever,"​ said Scott Foley, regional industrial organiser of trade union Unite.

"While management has now opened discussions with the union, the announcement has come as a bolt from the blue, without even being mentioned at our national partnership forum.​

"We will now be concentrating on finding alternatives to voluntary redundancy for our members, and we expect management to play a full part in that process."

Carlsberg is blaming the planned closure of the Alloa depot on a decline in the quantity of its own beers and contracted work from others in Scotland.

A Carlsberg spokesman said: "There is a 30-day consultation period before we reach a final decision.​

"August is the earliest it could possibly close. It is part of a review of our supply chain in Scotland.

"We will look at other jobs for workers should it close or there could be some voluntary redundancies."
