Bar Sport has appointed former First Choice Retail managing director John Donnelly as non-executive chairman.

The Midlands operator, founded by ex-boxer Scott Murray, has just opened its fifth site in Loughborough and is looking for private equity investors for a national rollout.

Donnelly's successes include growing Holiday Hypermarket from a concept and establishing Virgin Travel on the High Street.

"We have identified over 30 key parts of the country that would suit our operation and plan to open at least six new major sites in the next three years," said Murray.

"We also have plans to roll the business out on a much larger scale, which include the franchising of Bar Sport in the summer - plans that will benefit from John's wide experience in growing high street brands."

Donnelly added: "We will be transforming Bar Sport into a global product and plan to introduce new aspects to what is already a hugely successful formula.

"To assist in the growth of the brand we will be announcing some very exciting initiatives in the coming months."

Bar Sport has also installed former financial director of the West Midlands Co-operative Society Greg Taylor as its new FD.
