Toby Carvery teaches kids about food
Toby Carvery has launched a campaign to teach school children about the food they eat and its origins.
The initiative is part of the Government's year of food and farming and the M&B brand is offering pupils a behind the scenes experience at its pub restaurants. They will have the opportunity to meet a professional chef, learn about where food comes from and how it is prepared before it reaches the plate.
The first session saw Year 5 students from Brownhills West Primary School in Norton Canes, discover more about the journey vegetables make from the farm to their fork. As part of the two-hour interactive session the class learned about the importance of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, the nutritional content of vegetables, the numerous ways to cook them and even sampled different vegetables for themselves before enjoying a traditional carvery meal.
Sheelagh Pegg of Toby Carvery, said: "As an official partner in the Government's Year of Food and Farming initiative, we are committed to encouraging children to eat a healthier diet.
The chef schools are now being rolled out to Toby Carvery restaurants across the country.
