can¹t believe we¹ve already had Easter it only seemed like five minutes since we¹d wrapped up the rude Santas in newspaper before we were dusting down the well-endowed Easter bunny ornaments. You¹ve got to have a laugh, especially with trade the way it is.

One thing that definitely needs a spring makeover is our snack shelf. The girl on the peanut card has been there so long, her jumbo-size sharing bags are dragging on the carpet.

Having already finished off a whole box of Belgian chocolates on Easter Monday, I decided I might well try out some new snack ideas as well. In for a penny, and all that.

Sun Valley

I¹m all for giving customers the information they need to make an informed snack purchase, but I¹m not sure it was absolutely essential for Sun Valley to add the word Œhot¹ to its Chilli Peanut range presumably in case people didn¹t realise chilli peanuts would be spicy. It seems to work, though sales are up, and we¹re also selling plenty of the cashew and pistachio ranges.

Doritos

I¹ve always fancied myself as a film star, so I might try and convince a few of our regulars to whip out their long lenses and have a crack at the Doritos ŒYou Make it, We Play It¹ promotion. Doritos wants consumers to make and select the next Doritos TV advert, showing how people find play and fun in everyday situations. I¹m sure it¹s not just because they¹ve run out of ideas. I¹m ready for my close-up!

Mars Go to the Movies

Not that I need an excuse to buy chocolate, but just in case I don¹t make it as a film star, it¹s good news that the successful Mars Pouch Collector promotion is back. Rebranded ŒGo to the Movies with Maltesers & Friends¹, in return for eight tear-off strips from the tops of pouches within the Mars range, consumers will be able to claim a free pair of cinema tickets. The promotion is running across all Mars pouches Maltesers, Galaxy Minstrels, Revels, Peanut M&M¹s, Crispy M&M¹s, Chocolate M&M¹s and White Maltesers.

Tough choice.

Jack Link¹s

I¹ve never quite got the hang of jerky, although to be fair it¹s a long way from being the worst thing I¹ve ever tasted. The lads at the bar like it, anyway. Jack Link¹s is the world¹s best-selling meat snacks brand, and it¹s even low in fat and high in protein. The current range includes original, peppered, teriyaki and sweet and hot flavours, three flavours of beef steak nuggets and the UK¹s first ready-to-eat Steak Bar in BBQ, teriyaki and peppered flavours. That¹s a lot of bull.

Dorset Cereals Chunky Slices

These are much more my cup of tea. Dorset Cereals¹ new individually wrapped Chunky Slices are packed in a display unit holding 24 slices, ideal for the bar. Each slice is made using natural fruits, nuts, cereals and seeds bound together with agave nectar, ideal for keeping hunger pangs at bay. And they dunk beautifully.

Favourite Monkey

Favourite Monkey is a new snack company. Its product is not banana-flavoured, despite the monkey link, but a light and crunchy oven-toasted bread finger in three flavours. The flat-bottomed packaging and 70g portion size have been designed with sharing in mind although I managed a whole bag quite well on my own.

Brakes snack selection

Stocking snacks for children is always a bit of a minefield  parents do like to see a few healthier options these days. I keep the Brakes fruit and nut snack bags handy. The packs are available in soft apricots, raisins & sultanas and peanuts & raisins as well as three more exotic varieties tropical mix, intense berry mix and fruit & toasted seed mix. Walkers

I definitely need to get out more, so I¹m collecting points from as many empty bags of Walkers crisps as I can find for the Brit Trips promotion.

These points are redeemable against a whole range of trips, from discounted holidays at Butlins and Haven to half-price tickets to Madame Tussauds. You can also redeem them for a pub lunch, but I¹m not sure that would be much of a change for me. n www.walkers-crisps.co.uk
