Scottish & Newcastle UK is Britain's leading beer and cider business. In April 2008, the company became part of Heineken N.V. (Netherlands) as the UK operating arm of Heineken's Western European region.

S&N UK can trace its roots back to 1749, when its first brewery was founded in Edinburgh by William Younger. Since then it has grown from being a regional brewer in Scotland and the North of England to become the UK's largest brewer with around 28% market share.

Today Scottish & Newcastle UK is headquartered in Edinburgh with breweries in Gateshead, Tadcaster, Manchester and Reading, and a cider mill in Hereford. The company has approximately 4,500 employees in the UK. S&N UK's core brands are Kronenbourg 1664, Foster's, Heineken, John Smith's and Strongbow and our market-leading portfolio of beer and cider also includes Bulmers Original, Jacques, Amstel, Newcastle Brown Ale and McEwans.

Our strong focus on sales and marketing continues to drive our industry leading brand portfolio with innovation at the heart of our success as we lead the industry in new product development and technical excellence.

Environmental innovations include plans for two biomass plants in our breweries, ground breaking work with the Carbon Trust on carbon labelling, and long-term contracts with apple growers in Herefordshire.

S&NUK is also implementing a 5 year industry initiative designed to dramatically reduce the decline of the on-trade market. The strategy is based on an extensive 18-month research project, designed to improve understanding of today's challenging market, changing consumer trends and evolving consumer needs. There are 5 key areas of growth identified that S&NUK are aligning to.

S&N UK is totally committed to promoting the responsible consumption of alcohol. We are extremely proud of the quality of our products, which are enjoyed responsibly by millions of people every day. We continue to participate and contribute to the alcohol debate at a regional and national level and we believe that it is critical for our business and the communities in which we operate that we work tirelessly to tackle irresponsible consumption of our products and promote responsible drinking.
