Licensees David and Kate Deacon have built their reputation on creating a range of dishes all from fresh produce with favourites being braised shoulder of lamb, chicken and leek pie, fresh fish and chips, grilled fillet of salmon, steak and onion pie and deep-fried scampi.

The Shoulder of Mutton beat off stiff competition from the Bayley Arms and the Highwayman in Lancashire and the Q Bar and the Sweetenham Arms in Cheshire to the award.

"Once again, we are proud to host the Northern Hospitality Awards and work with the industry across the region to go from hundreds of entries to nine exceptional winners," said Thom Hetherington, managing Director of the awards' organisers, Moorfield Media.
