Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has become the first to be recognised under the BIIAB Good Practice Recognition Scheme (GPRS).

The scheme is designed to give formal recognition to in-house training programmes.

M&B was rewarded for its Beer Quality Development training programme, which aims to raise the standard and quality of serve across its estate.

"As the leading provider of qualifications to the licensed retail sector, the BIIAB brand can add real value to the programme and demonstrate that it conforms to good quality industry standards," said BIIAB director Cathie Smith.

Rachel Boyd, beer quality manager for M&B, added: "We're committed to ensuring that our pub teams receive the best available training the industry has to offer.

"Our investment - in terms of training sessions and regular auditing - means we are able to work closely with our suppliers as well as bodies such as BIIAB and Cask Marque to ensure that our customers are consistently served a perfect pint.

"Achieving the BIIAB Good Practice Recognition Scheme is testament to all of the hard work put in by our employees and keeps us at the forefront of training, auditing and innovation in beer quality management and practice."
