The BII has launched its long awaited Level 2 National Certificate for Cellar Service Installation and Maintenance (NCCSIM).

The qualification has been developed in conjunction with the Brewing, Food & Beverage Industry Suppliers Association (BFBi) and fills a gap in the market for a quality hallmark for suitably qualified engineers.

It covers five key subject areas - health and safety, beer dispense equipment, cellar service equipment, service installation and dispense pressure systems.

Ruth Evans, chief executive of the BFBi, said: "BFBi, together with Learning & Skills Council, is developing a framework of professional, nationally recognised, training and accreditation for cellar service engineers in order to ensure safety and best practice within the sector.

"As well as initiating an industry route to funding, we are coordinating the national provision of training to ensure an efficient and cost effective delivery."

The course will be available through all BIIAB approved training centres.
