With the final phase of the group games taking place this week, we also have the most tantalising clash so far. Italy won the 2006 World Cup, beating France on penalties. The French side did manage to win back some pride a couple of months after, beating the Azzurri 3-1 in a Euro 2008 qualifier. Another chance for revenge will come on Tuesday, with the last match in Group C — also known as the "group of death". France v Italy kicks off at 7.45pm (BBC1 from 7.30pm).

With Romania and the Netherlands also in Group C, both France and Italy can work up to their Tuesday face-off with tough matches on Friday.

Group D isn't exactly an easy ride either, with Spain, Sweden, Greece and Russia all looking to progress.

If Spain are to make it to the quarter-finals, they will need to do well against Sweden, headed by former Gunner Freddie Ljungberg, on Saturday (ITV1 at 4.15pm). Also in Group D, Greece v Russia is on Saturday on ITV1 at 7.15pm.

Host nation Switzerland have a visit from one of the favourites to contend with. Their match against Portugal is on Sunday evening (ITV1, 7.30pm). Also expecting to feature in the next stage, Germany will be looking for full points against Austria on Monday (BBC1, 7.30pm).

Wales's first defeat under coach Warren Gatland leaves them 1-0 down in their Test series in South Africa. See if they can claw one back against the world champion Springboks on Saturday (SS1, 1.30pm).

Euro 2008 Football:

France v Italy (BBC1)

Talk about a grudge match. Emotions will be high for this last group game between the World Cup finalists. Two years ago, the final ended in a 1-1 stalemate with goals from Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi. The pair were centre of attention for other reasons though, when a dispute in extra time saw Zidane headbutting his opponent and ending his legendary career in disgrace. The match had to be resolved with a penalty shootout which Italy won 5-3. Ex-Arsenal player Thierry Henry will be back for revenge.
