Adnams brewer ends 18 years of service

The head brewer of Adnams has retired after nearly two decades of service. Last year Mike Powell-Evans, who started at Adnams in 1990, was awarded Brewer of the Year by the British Guild of Beer Writers.

During his time as head brewer, Adnams has won a number of regional, national and international awards for its beers and Powell-Evans' hard work has contributed to Adnams becoming one of the UK's fastest-growing beer brands.

Other Adnams accolades during his time with the company include Adnams' Bitter being voted the Campaign for Real Ale's (Camra's) Champion Beer of East Anglia in 2007, and Broadside being voted the Best Strong Bitter at the Great British Beer Festival in 2003.

Jonathan Adnams, chairman of Adnams, said: "Mike has been a great credit to the company and his expertise and commitment to traceability, excellence and integrity, has maintained Adnams status as a high-quality brewer throughout the past 18 years. There are few as passionate about English beer as Mike, who certainly deserves his reputation as a celebrated brewer of great-tasting beers."

Four changes at Coors

Coors has promoted strategy director David Heede, right, to the role of finance director with additional responsibility for IT. Heede will fill the gap left by Stewart Glendinning's promotion to global chief financial officer of Molson Coors announced last week.

Heede, who joined the business in 1979, is a qualified accountant and has an MBA from Nottingham University. Simon Cox, below, who joined Coors in 2005 and is currently director of strategic sourcing and technical, will take over as strategy director. Coors chief executive Mark Hunter said: "These changes signal our ambition and capability to develop our people.

I would like to personally thank Stewart for his contribution and support as he moves to the USA and wish David and Simon every success in their new roles."

The two appointments are effective from 1 July and will be based in the head office in Burton-on-Trent.

Meanwhile the company's American arm, Molson Coors Brewing Company has announced the appointment of Peter Swinburn as president and chief executive officer and Stewart Glendinning as global chief financial officer.

Both appointments are effective on the close of the previously-announced agreement with SABMiller to form the MillerCoors joint venture in the US, currently anticipated to occur on 30 June.

Eric Molson, chairman of Molson Coors Brewing Company, said: "Molson Coors has an extremely deep and talented management team and we are very pleased to have leaders like Peter and Stewart step seamlessly into these critical roles and take our company into its next exciting chapter."
