The Publican is underlining its support for beer and brewing by backing two of the major events in the real ale calendar.

This summer's Great British Beer Festival, hosted by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) at London's Earls Court, will once again see The Publican feature as exclusive trade partner for the trade day, which takes place on Tuesday August 5.

This session provides an opportunity for all sectors of the trade to come together and sample some of the finest beers in the UK, the day before the five-day event is thrown open to the general public. Attendees will be the first to hear the judges' choice for the 2008 Champion Beer of Britain.

Meanwhile The Publican will also be backing the Society of Independent Brewers' 2008 Brewing Business Awards, which will take place on Monday October 13.

As sponsor of the Best support for on-trade customer category, The Publican will be looking to help SIBA recognise the brewer which has best helped grow sales for pubs and other on-trade outlets over the past year.

Louise Ashworth, CAMRA's head of marketing, said: "CAMRA is delighted that The Publican is supporting the Great British Beer Festival trade session. Last year we had nearly 5,000 trade visitors at the trade session and this year, with The Publican's help, we want to get more trade visitors than ever before.

"Licensees attending the festival will be inspired to put on a greater range and variety of real ales at their own pubs once they realize how many excellent ales there are around the UK. Real ales can definitely be the USP for Britain's best pubs and help them to succeed in today's challenging times."
