Trigon Snacks is running vending trials in pubs with its Big D and Berry Nutty brands.
The snacks brand owner believes it can boost distribution of its range, as well as help pubs taking part to replace income lost to the smoking ban.
Special 50g cans vending cans have been created, featuring six lines from the two ranges. The £1 a can vending price offers a premium over standard bagged nut sales.
Iain Paton, Trigon Marketing Controller, said: "Pubs have seen vending sales decline and we believe the trial offers opportunities to make up some of that lost revenue."
The vending trial will run this summer as part of a concerted drive to boost sales across the Trigon range. The company's research shows a strong affinity between nuts and traditional ale drinkers, with pub impulse purchase heavily influenced by point of sale visibility of brands.
Across the range, Trigon is revamping its bar top, counter display and clip strips as well as the classic Big D card featuring brand spokesmodel Malene - to increase snack sales.
