Students and tourists are being offered leaflets advising them on how to stay safe after a night out.

The leaflets are being handed out in the pubs and clubs of Manchester city centre and provide information on how to drink responsibly, where to find taxi ranks, and what to do if you have to walk home at night.

Approximately 30,000 copies of the Take A Taxi You Can Trust leaflets have been distributed across the city, and will also be handed out in the Greater Manchester Police information packs given to new students during fresher's week.

Councillor Richard Cowell, Manchester City Council's executive member for the environment, said: "These easy-to-use guides contain everything you need to know about getting home safely after a night out, and they'll be very useful for anyone living and working in the city, including the thousands of students who are now arriving here in Manchester.

"The leaflet's small enough to put in a purse, wallet or handbag, and I hope people will feel safer when they're on a night out, knowing they've got this information at their fingertips."
