Police have secured a licence revocation for a pub in Gloucester after a "massive failure" to prevent crime and disorder — one of the four licensing objectives.

Police called for a review at the Robin Hood pub on Bristol Road in May. Following an adjournment, the licensing committee decided to revoke the licence on 13 August after hearing evidence from the police, environmental health officers and neighbours.

Licensee Alan Wibby had 21 days to appeal but chose not to.

"I was concerned that this review could damage our relationship with the licensing trade, however I have received full support from the Gloucester City Licensed Victuallers Association and our relationship remains as strong as ever," said police licensing officer Guy Hall.

Divisional licensing inspector Andy Kilmurray added: "Calling for a review was a difficult decision to make but the right one in the circumstances.

"We obviously need to work with the licensing trade of Gloucester but must not allow standards to fall below what is clearly acceptable. It is our duty to ensure that all members of the public are protected from alcohol related crime and disorder and antisocial behaviour."
