Rational calls time on limescale

Equipment supplier Rational reckons to have cracked the problem of limescale build-up.

The company has developed a new cleaning system which means its SelfCooking Centre combi-steamer ovens can be installed without a water filter and will never need descaling.

Hard water in the UK means the working life of some catering equipment can be drastically reduced due to limescale build-up, even when pubs invest in expensive maintenance regimes.

Rational's new CareControl system means the oven monitors how it's being used and tells staff when the self-cleaning programme needs to be run.

Cleaning tablets are placed in a draw on the unit and the machine runs a cleaning programme based according to how heavily its been used - steamed veg will have created less grease than a suckling pig, for example.

This save on running costs, while the tablets also use special limescale dissolving ingredients to prevent scale building up.

Reflecting its confidence in the new system, Rational is also extending the standard one-year warranty on equipment to a two-year guarantee.
