Fuller's has launched a limited edition bottled ale that is matured in whisky casks for more than 500 days.

Brewer's Reserve, at 7.7% abv, is a blend of Fuller's beers 1845, ESB Export and Golden Pride. The recommended price point is £4.99,

The aim is to create a new strong beer with some characteristics of single malt whisky. It's similar to the process used to make Inns & Gunn, which is matured in barrels previously used for Bourbon.

Just 25,000 bottles of Brewer's Reserve have been produced and there are plans to brew new batches in the future with casks used for other whiskies and spirits. Fuller's head brewer John Keeling said: "It has the Fuller's blend of hoppy bitterness and rich, tangy marmalade flavours, along with subtle vanilla notes from the oak and a wonderful hint of whisky."

Fuller's Beer Company managing director John Roberts said: "Fuller's has shown, through the success of our other limited edition brew Vintage Ale, that we can really capture the public's imagination with our bottle-conditioned premium fine ales.

"This truly is a beer for the connoisseur and I am looking forward to seeing what John Keeling and his team have planned for number two next year."
