Rap music was invented not in New York's Bronx ... but in medieval Scotland, a historian has claimed. Celts taunted each other with insulting rhymes, laying the foundation of today's hip hop. Scottish slave owners later exported the tradition from the home of TV's Glaswegian "street philosopher" Rab C Nesbitt to America, which was developed by black inner-city youths in the 1970s. US academic Professor Ferenc Szasz said: "The Scots have a lengthy tradition of intense verbal jousting that is often laced with vulgarity. It's similar to music found among inner-city African-American youth. - The Sun
