Admiral Taverns has appointed industry veteran Peter Brook as managing director of 400 under-performing pubs, which require "additional support".

Brook, previously managing director of Innspired and Tattershall Castle Group, joins the tenanted and leased operator with immediate effect.

A recent review revealed that 200-250 pubs have been identified for sale, leaving 1,550 in the core estate plus the 400 in Brook's new division. Lynne D'Arcy and Andy Clifford will remain as joint managing directors of the core estate.

"In this economic climate we have recognised that the additional focus is beneficial for our company and our tenants," said D'Arcy.

Brook added: "I am looking forward to running this newly created division of Admiral Taverns. By splitting out these pubs it will enable us to devote our expertise and additional resource where it is required.

"This is a positive move for the company allowing quicker and more effective management and focused investment decisions."
