Hertfordshire brewer and operator McMullen's has acquired the Bullfinch in Sevenoaks, Kent from Geronimo Inns for an undisclosed sum.

Food-led operator Geronimo, which is by backed Penta Capital, bought the Bullfinch in February 2007 and invested around £800,000 in a refurbishment project.

"We have taken the decision to sell the Bullfinch in order to refocus our attention on our remaining sites," said Geronimo Inns' founder and managing director Rupert Clevely.

"We plan to re-invest the funds from the sale across our existing estate and towards the continuing expansion of the Geronimo business."

Peter Furness-Smith, managing director at McMullen's, said: "We are delighted to have been able to expand our trading area into Kent with the acquisition of such a good site."

The sale was handled by Christie + Co. "This is a perfect example of how in the current climate regional brewers are able take advantage of the lack of competition from major chains, to increase their freehold estates through the acquisition of quality sites in good locations," said director and head of pubs Neil Morgan.
