Adnams buys three pubs from Punch Taverns for £2.7m
Adnams has bought three prime pub sites in Suffolk from Punch Taverns for £2.7m.
The Suffolk based brewer's purchase includes the Maybush at Waldringfield, the Butt & Oyster at Pin Mill and the Ship at Levington. Two of the pubs are situated on the River Orwell, with the third located on the River Deben.
The sale follows Punch Taverns decision in December to offer 500 of its bottom end pubs for sale, offering tenants first refusal in a move to try to reduce its £4.5bn debts.
Adnams chairman Jonathan Adnams called the three pubs "iconic" and said that brewery is "hugely excited" about having acquired them.
"For many years we have thought that these pubs would fit perfectly within our estate and when the opportunity arose we were delighted to complete the purchase from Punch Taverns," he said.
"We are delighted that these pubs have become available as they fit perfectly with the Adnams brand and our long-term objectives to build a quality estate of pubs in our heartland of Suffolk."
Punch today declined to comment on reports that it was approaching other regional brewers with a view to selling selected pubs.
