Serving up English beef is a great way for pubs to mark St George's Day.

EBLEX has created a themed promotional kit for pubs, which also gives them the chance to offer customers the chance to win a trip to London.

The free of charge kit is designed to help boost sales of quality beef during a week of celebrations for St George's Day from April 20 to 27, and is on offer to the first 500 pubs to get in touch with EBLEX.

Along with posters, beer mats, menu highlighters and tent cards, the 'Celebrate with Quality Beef' kit contains an opportunity for a customer to win a stay at a top hotel in London, including a meal for two, to the value of £500.

EBLEX has also recommended a selection of added-value cuts, including stir-fry strips and mince. The range of ideas includes:

  • Lunchtime and early evening roasts, to capture the 'grey market'
  • Medieval banquets
  • A George's Day special, the 'Spicy Dragon' hot beef roll.

Foodservice project manager for EBLEX, Hugh Judd, said: "St George's Day is a huge opportunity for publicans to get in the spirit of celebrating England's patron saint, plus it is another chance to generate some additional profit in the current economic climate.

"Customers will be looking for ways to celebrate this special occasion and although the day isn't declared as a national holiday, people will still want to toast St George."

To request a kit, there's a special St George's Day micro-site which can be reached by logging on to EBLEX or call 0800 781 4221.
