A licensee is suing two people who allegedly attacked him at his pub after they were "let off" with cautions. Richard Bell is taking civil action for loss of earnings and health care costs.

He is angry that the two alleged attackers weren't prosecuted after the incident at the Silent Woman in Wareham, Dorset.

Bell is the latest licensee to express frustration that people who allegedly attack licensees don't face justice.

It follows the launch of National Pubwatch's Court Not Caution campaign, which wants anyone who assaults a licensee or pub staff to face court.

Bell said he's been unable to work after the alleged attack on Valentine's evening and had to employ two extra members of staff, costing around £500 per week in total. The Hall & Woodhouse tenant said: "The police were fantastic at the time. They were up until 4am with statements taken from my daughter and regulars.

"We found out on Monday that [the alleged attackers] will not be prosecuted. It's terrible."

A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service said there's no record of the incident in its database. This suggests the police didn't refer it to the CPS. The MA left a message with Dorset police but received no reply.
