A new campaign is being launched today aiming to turn local pubs into unofficial tourist information centres and boost custom for the industry.

VisitEngland is also launching a new interactive website as part of its Inn England campaign, which will highlight some of the nation's best pubs.

The website - www.enjoyengland.com/innengland - is designed to be a one-stop-shop for day-trippers, holiday makers, or for those looking for an afternoon out, with categories such as family friendly, historical, stunning views and best for food.

The campaign is being run in partnership with The Publican, with some of the featured pubs having been winners at the prestigious Publican Awards.

Caroline Nodder, editor of The Publican, said: "Inn England will remind people of the unique place that the English pub holds in our history and our culture.

"Pubs are the beating hearts of our country and there has never been a better time to showcase how amazing and diverse our pubs really are and to encourage more people to visit them and be proud of them."

Amanda Smyth, head of marketing at VisitEngland, said: "Pubs are a key part of England's brand, our history and way of life.

"They are often the cornerstone of a local community and a great way to discover more about a destination, be it the produce on the menu, the history of the people and surroundings, or the great walks and activities in the area."
