Pub tenants and lessees can get rent review advice at the BII Rent Review Roadhsow in Newcastle.

The event, sponsored by Punch Taverns and Magners, will be chaired by Morning Advertiser web editor Ewan Turney and take place on 21 October at Newcastle Racecourse.

The aim is to give an understanding of:

• how rents are calculated

• how to prepare for rent reviews

• how to operate as professionally as possible to ensure a fair review is achieved

• how rents are resolved when parties fail to agree

Chartered surveyor Rodger Vickers of Brownhill Bateman will talk on the principles of a rent review, while Stuart Gallyot of Punch Taverns will explain how pubcos approach rent reviews.

BII director of membership Steve Howe will explain how the BII Benchmarking and Accreditation Services of pubco codes of practice work.

Phil Dixon will lead an in depth talk on how best to prepare for a rent review and will also provide an update on the Business and Enterprise Committee. The day will wrap up with a Q&A session and lunch.

"Just the very thought of a rent review can incite fear in a licensee," said BII North East Region chairman Richard Slade.

"If you're not properly prepared, they can be a very stressful experience. We aim to dispel some of the myths surrounding rent reviews, encourage positive communication between licensees and pubcos and assist the process to make it as straightforward as possible."

Tickets for the event cost just £25 for BII members and £29 for non-members. Registration is from 9.00am and the roadshow will commence at 10am. The BII North East Region AGM will take place at 9.30am till 10am for members only.

The day will conclude with lunch at 1.10pm and this is included in the price.
