Brakes has announced the appointment of Philip Jansen to succeed Frank McKay as group chief executive officer following his retirement.

Jansen will formally join the Brakes board on February 1 2010 after five years with the Sodexho Group, most recently as group chief operating officer and chief executive officer UK and Ireland.

Prior to Sodexo, Jansen held several senior roles within various industries including My Travel Group plc, TeleWest Communications and Procter and Gamble.

Commenting on the appointment, Dwight Poler, chairman said: "Philip Jansen is an outstanding appointment who will build on Brakes' strong foundations. I would like to welcome him to the role and wish him every success as he takes the company into the next exciting phase of growth.

"On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Frank McKay for his tremendous contribution to Brakes over many years."

Philip Jansen said: "Brakes is renowned for its excellent reputation, talented people and strong relationships. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the business and build on its considerable success in the UK, Ireland and France."
