JD Wetherspoon is to create 100 jobs at its new pub in Torquay, following a £780,000 refurbishment project.

The former Bar Med in Winter Gardens, Fleet Walk, is opening as a Wetherspoon outlet on Friday 27 November.

The Wetherspoon pub, which will be called The Green Ginger, will be managed by Rob Gibson.

The new pub is situated on the ground floor of the large, circular section of the Fleet Walk Shopping Centre, which stands on the site of Abbey Place.

The new pub will specialise in real ales, serving a wide range of beers, including those from local and regional brewers.

The Green Ginger will be open from 9am until midnight (Monday and Tuesday), 9am until 1am (Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday) and 9am until 3am (Friday and Saturday). Food will be served throughout the day.

The new-look outlet will feature two bars and a dance floor, situated on one floor, but on three levels.

There is also a canopy area, to the rear of the premises, where smoking is permitted.

"I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and am confident that it will be a good addition to Torquay's social scene," said Gibson.

The company already runs The London Inn, in The Strand. Currently a Lloyds bar, this outlet will revert to a Wetherspoon pub on the same day.
