The Morning Advertiser-backed John Smith's People's Darts competition nears its climax today, as the eight regional finalists take to the oche at Lakeside to compete for a place in Sunday's final.

Coverage of the matches will be shown as part of the BBC's afternoon broadcasts from the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships and the final of the John Smith's People's Championship final will be screened on the BBC on Sunday evening.

The quarter final draw paired Yorkshire pub champion Graham Elvidge from The Trafalgar in Scarborough with North-East region winner Raymond Storer of the Slake Club in County Durham, while North West representative Jamie Guilfoyle, from Sydney Street WMC, Accrington will take on Scotland's crowned champion Duncan Hastings from Penny's Bar in Falkirk.

The Southern half of the draw will see South West victor Merv Hathaway (Cross Hands, Bristol) play Welsh champion John Quinn (Briton Ferry WMC, Neath) while South of England final winner Mark Petchey (Royal Oak, Basingstoke) will take on Central England 'top dog' Stuart Ward (The Whittleway, Peterborough) in the last quarter final.

The eight finalists have all won £1,000 prize money for the charity of their choice and the overall champion will win a further £14,000 for the charity of their choice, and £1,000 of equipment for their local pub.
