Britvic is increasing the size of its bag-in-box format, used for post-mix draught carbonate serves.

The bags in boxes for the entire Britvic carbonate range, including Pepsi, will now come in a 12 instead of 10-litre format. The company confirmed this would result in a price increase, but said it could not yet comment on how much it was likely to be.

"We have introduced a new 12-litre bag-in-box for our carbonates range, which will replace the 10-litre format," confirmed Paul Linthwaite, Britvic on-trade business unit director.

"We believe it will enable quicker product change-overs for licensees and better space usage both in the cellar and the wider supply chain," he added.

The move will also bring Pepsi in line with rival Coca-Cola in terms of its bag-in-box format. Britvic has been keen to push Pepsi innovation through the on-trade, where the brand is number one.

Last year it launched a three-month trial of Pepsi flavours — apple, vanilla, cherry, winter spice, tropical and mango & chilli — which are poured into a glass followed by the Pepsi, in a way that is "similar to syrups for coffee".

Back in 2008 Britvic launched both its premium Pepsi Raw variant and the Pepsi Xtra Cold font into the on-trade.
