The Fridge, an independently owned nightclub in Brixton, South London, has been sold to Kingdom Entertainment Group.

Kingdom Entertainment Group currently operates the Arts Theatre just off London's Leicester Square and the Prince & Dex bar and nightclub in Brixton.

The company plans to continue to operate the Fridge as a nightclub.

The Fridge had been put up for sale with offers in the region of £250,000 being sought. Christie & Co marketed the leasehold interest on behalf of fixed charge receiver Stephen Katz of David Rubin & Partners.

Barry Fitzgerald from the property agent said: "We are delighted to have secured the future of this famous venue."

Originally founded by Andrew Czezowski and Susan Carrington, The Fridge nightclub initially started in 1981 in a small club at 390 Brixton Lane. In 1985, as a result of increased popularity, the club moved to its current location; a converted 1913 cinema (The Palladium Picture House) on the Town Hall Parade.
