Magistrates have banned a man from bars in Manchester's Gay Village for three years after he threatened a female door supervisor.

Under the ASBO Robert Smith from Salford is banned from all licensed premises in the area and prevented from entering the Village between 6pm and 6am.

Smith was already barred from a number of venues in the area as a result of aggressive behaviour including smoking in pubs and threatening staff.

"The city council will not shy away from using the powers it has to curb this type of behaviour," said Manchester City Council's head of crime and disorder Maureen Noble.

"The Gay Village will be a better place to work and socialise in because of the restrictions imposed on Mr Smith under this ASBO."
