A pair of licensees have been ordered to pay £13,000 for screening Sky without a commercial contract.

Vincent Mark and Gary Smith, of the Plough Inn, in Bicester, Oxfordshire, pleaded guilty to six charges of dishonest television reception at court last week.

In total they were fined and ordered to pay costs of £13,280.

They had shown Sky programmes in the pub despite only having a contract for domestic use.

A Sky spokeswoman said: "This case demonstrates the seriousness of this issue as courts continue to deliver considerable penalties to licensees who televise Sky content illegally."

The case was bought to court by the Federation Against Copyright Theft. This year there have been 150 similar cases across the country.
