Dozens of once-famous beers have fallen out of favour with pub drinkers. Most of us are popping out for a drink less often but when we do we like to treat ourselves to something that's a little special - and pricier. Whitbread Best, Mitchells and Butlers Mild and McEwan's Scotch Ale have all dropped out of the UK's 200 top-selling pub drinks. An increase in VAT to 20pc would cost UK beer drinkers £300m a year, the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has warned.
