Pubs are being encouraged to host a water-themed quiz as part of a major push to raise money for the charity WaterAid.

The Publican has linked-up with the organisation for the initiative Tap into WaterAid, which urges pubs to ask for a 15p donation every time a customer asks for water.

One of the ways pubs can get involved is hosting a quiz, with questions available to download from the right-hand side of this page.

George Ashbrook at the Black Lion in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, is one of the licensees planning to host a quiz to raise money for the charity.

"We're will be telling the local media about our quiz and we hope that other pubs in the area will start raising money too," said George.

The pub will charge an entry fee - and to raise awareness in the run up to the quiz George is holding a raffle.

And the licensee is also raising money from the cyclists which pop in, as the pub is located on a mountain bike trail.

"We've had over 20,00 cyclists come to our area in the last 12 months and even though we're out in the sticks, loads of cyclist come to top up their water bottles so it's great to spread the word," he said.

Around 150 other pubs have already signed up to get involved in the Tap into WaterAid initiative.

Cara Keane, WaterAid's corporate account manager, said: "If every pub sends in just £15 every month - that's just 50 pence a day - on top of a bit of extra fundraising, we should be well on our way to achieving the target of £50,000 by April 2011."
Why get involved in Tap into WaterAid?

Everyday one in eight people go without safe water and 4,000 children die from water-related diseases. By asking customers for a small donation and hosting events it will not only make your customers feel good, but bring in more custom for you too.
