BII chief executive Neil Robertson talks about how licensees can increase footfall and the overall benefits of this festival for pubs.

Why BII is supporting British Pub Week

BII is supporting British Pub Week (October 30 to November 8) because it wholeheartedly supports the trade, and any initiative that encourages the public back into pubs can't be ignored. The week also unites many different sectors of the trade and gets them working together — something which has never been done before.

BII will be emailing all our members with further information on British Pub Week, including how they can get involved and what events they can organise.

We'll also be supporting the week through our website and popular members' magazine, BIIBUSINESS,

Editor Andrew Pring attended the recent launch of British Pub Week at the Clarence, Whitehall, so will be able to report regularly on any updates that come from the steering committee.

Further information for licensees about how they can get involved will be on our website and in BIIBUSINESS.

Why should licensees support British Pub Week

Licensees should support and get involved with British Pub Week not only to increase their overall footfall, but also to bring back customers who haven't visited a pub for a while, and encourage new people to visit a pub, perhaps for the first time.

Reaching out to new audiences creates potential future opportunities for licensees, and the initiative is designed to be a win-win situation for all involved.

The customer gets a week of exciting events which brings them closer to their local, the licensee benefits from additional footfall and ideas for future events, and the trade as a whole benefits from uniting and working together to enhance the Great British Pub.

Last year was the inaugural British Pub Week. Licensees enjoyed organising and participating in a range of activities, including live music performances, Halloween parties, "best dressed" competitions, real ale trials, quizzes and fun days.

This year, the steering committee has once again come up with a week packed full of great event ideas. Licensees don't have to do something every day, and the activities they undertake won't be dictated by the committee,

So get brainstorming for British Pub week, and be as creative as you like with your ideas. The committee would love to hear what you have planned; email us at vasb@whfgvprsbeyvprafrrf.bet.hx.
