Licensees getting in the Proud of Pubs spirit

Pubs across the country are gearing up to host a range of events and activities to mark Proud of Pubs Week 2010.

This year's week runs from July 19 to 25 and with world record attempts, visits from MPs and a host of parties planned it could be the biggest and best yet.

Gerry O'Brien can't wait for the week to begin as it marks his 25th anniversary as manager of Fuller's pub the Churchill Arms in London's Notting Hill.

He said: "It is going to be a great week for us and we will be coinciding it with our own birthday celebrations, we just can't wait for it to get started."

As well as making sure he has our very own Proud of Pubs Summer Ale on tap Gerry is holding a street party, inviting his local MP Malcolm Rifkind and London Mayor Boris Johnson to the pub, and holding events to raise money for a regular's daughter who needs a life-saving operation.

He added: "25 years is a long time but we still enjoy it and we are still finding new things to do."

Meanwhile the White Horse in Bedford is also holding a number of events throughout the week, including a 'bizarre bazaar', Proud of Pubs karaoke, an open mic and a disco.

And the Glan Yr Afron Inn in Dolphin, North Wales, is also getting ready for Proud of Pubs Week.

Licensee Chris Windley said: "We will be having a party with a fancy dress theme and also have some real ale and chocolate tasting sessions."

The Publican​ will be holding it's own at our Pub of the Year - the Wiremill in Lingfield, Surrey, which will see attempts to break beermat flipping world records.
