'Booze-buying parents put teens at risk'
Parents are fuelling underage drinking after admitting buying booze for their children, a leading alcohol charity warned yesterday. More than half - 53 per cent - of mothers and fathers plan to give their 16 and 17-year-olds wine or spirits this summer, a survey found. And those with teenagers going away on holiday on their own for the first time say they will give them five or more bottles for the week. Police are probing a mystery CS gas attack on a Lothian pub which led to dozens of choking drinkers fleeing outside for air.More than 50 people had to be evacuated from the Cross Tavern in Whitburn when a canister of the invisible gas was set off just before closing time.They rushed out on to the town's main street where gala day celebrations had been held earlier that day as police and ambulance services rushed to the scene. It is not known whether the canister was thrown into the pub or let off from the inside.
