Pubco Admiral Taverns has been successful in getting a pub back from a band of squatting pirates.

The company went to court this week after seven squatters moved into the Lifeboat Inn in Teignmouth, Devon, hoisting a banner claiming "Pirates' Rights - it's arrrghs."

But at South Devon County Court Judge Penelope Taylor granted a possession order meaning the squatters had to leave within 24 hours.

She said residents had complained about the pirates moving into the pub.

"They explain how difficult it has been for them", she said.

"I have to balance the rights of the people who own, the people in the area and you (the squatters). You have no rights there under the rules."

A further hearing will be held on July 26.
